How Do Rainwater Tanks Fare In LCA?
Water is a necessity for survival. Considered the driest continent in the planet with 20% of the country classified as desert, nowhere else is that fact more noticeable than in Australia.
With climate change being the forefront of global issues, it is no surprise that there are increasing concerns over securing a reliable source of water in Australia, leading many to invest in harvesting their own rainwater in a bid for independence from centralised systems. In Western Australia alone, 17% of our mains water is supplied by desalination which is an energy intensive industry. Therefore, intuitively it seems that harvesting rainwater is the right choice for the planet… but is it?
While it is assumed that harvesting rainwater is the best option, this presentation seeks to answer the question – do the numbers tell us that harvesting rainwater is the best choice for our environment?
In this controversial discussion, eTool LCD Engineer Fei Ngeow will take a close look at the numbers behind the assumptions using eToolLCD in a life cycle analysis on rainwater harvesting in WA.
Come down on Friday afternoon, have a drink and be prepared to participate in some great discussion on an interesting topic!
